About the Transportation Team
Rancho Cordova is a vibrant, growing community of over 81,000 residents and a major employment center in the Sacramento region. Our Transportation Division focuses on delivering a safe, multimodal, and connected transportation network for all users—pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, and transit riders alike.

We lead and support: 
  • Multimodal transportation planning and safety projects
  • Grant applications and management
  • Regional partnerships and public engagement
  • Infrastructure design and implementation
What We're Looking For
The City of Rancho Cordova is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking transportation planner who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate brings a passion for multimodal planning, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to manage complex projects with limited supervision.

Key areas of focus for this role include project and consultant management, transportation safety and mobility planning, and community engagement. Candidates should be eager to contribute to a growing transportation team and bring curiosity, initiative, and problem-solving skills to their daily work. 

To succeed in this role, candidates should have a solid foundation in transportation planning practices and terminology, and ideally possess experience with: 
  • Grant writing and administration
  • Public outreach and presentations
  • Data analysis tools such as Excel and Power BI
  • Visual communication tools like PowerPoint and Canva

Assistant Transportation Planner Salary Range: $7,194.68 - $8,766.01 monthly
Associate Transportation Planner Salary Range: $7,914.12 - $9,642.61 monthly

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Assistant Transportation Planner

Education:

  • Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in transportation planning, land use planning, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience:
  • No professional experience is required.
License or Certification:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
Associate Transportation Planner
Education:
  • Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in transportation planning, land use planning, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience:
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional transportation planning experience at a level comparable to an Assistant Transportation Planner with the City of Rancho Cordova.
License or Certification:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTS

Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; and strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. On a continuous basis work in an office environment sitting at a desk for long periods of time; travel from job site to job site sitting in vehicle; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing field work; may be exposed to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles while performing field work; may work on uneven or slippery surfaces; and may intermittently perform field work while exposed to various types of weather including extreme heat during summer months and cold temperatures during the winter months. Some accommodations may be made for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.
