THE ROLE


As an Assistant Construction Manager in WT's Honolulu office, you will play an important role in supporting the successful delivery of the New Aloha Stadium and Entertainment District project. Working alongside experienced project and construction professionals, you will gain hands-on experience in the planning, coordination, and delivery of one of Hawaii's most significant infrastructure projects.


This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual seeking to build a career in construction management, infrastructure delivery, and owner's representative services. The role will involve supporting project controls, field coordination, contractor oversight activities, schedule monitoring, and stakeholder communications while developing a strong understanding of alternative project delivery methods and large-scale infrastructure programs.


The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of working effectively in a collaborative project environment. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential. Previous experience in construction, engineering, project management, architecture, or a related field is preferred but not required.


Working under the guidance of senior project leaders, the Assistant Construction Manager will progressively assume greater responsibility as they develop technical expertise and project management skills.


Some of the core responsibilities for this role include:


RESPONSIBILITIES


Construction Oversight & Coordination

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure alignment with approved scope, schedule, and quality
  • Coordinate with the team responsible for stadium construction, operations, and maintenance


Schedule, Cost, and Progress Monitoring

  • Review contractor schedule and progress updated to ensure the project achieves target delivery date.
  • Track construction activities and progress against key milestones and delivery commitments.
  • Support budget monitoring alongside project controls and cost management teams.


Contract & Compliance Management

  • Monitor compliance with project agreements (e.g., development agreement, stadium delivery obligations).
  • Assist in managing contractor reporting requirements and performance metrics.
  • Support interpretation of contractor submissions and escalate issues where necessary.


Reporting & Stakeholder Communications

  • Contribute to PMO reporting requirements, including monthly updates on:
    • Budget and timeline.
    • Risks and issues.
    • Health, safety, and quality performance.
  • Prepare briefings and materials for client stakeholders.


Risk & Issue Management

  • Identify construction risks and dependencies.
  • Maintain coordination with the PMO risk register and mitigation strategies.
  • Support escalation and resolution of complex construction issues.


Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate across multiple stakeholders, including:
    • State agencies.
    • Master developer.
    • Design consultants and contractors.
  • Ensure alignment between stadium delivery and broader district development.


Other Duties as Assigned

  • Provide flexible support to project teams as priorities shift or new needs arise.
  • Support WT's mission and values through collaboration and professionalism.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


    • Bachelor's Degree and ten (10) years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
    • Experience delivering large-scale civil, sports, or mixed-use developments.
    • Strong background in project delivery / construction management.
    • Contract and stakeholder management expertise.
    • Ability to operate in a complex, multi-agency enviornment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Proficient with Office 365 and project management platforms.
    • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
