Construction Manager
The Construction Manager leads, directs and coordinates the daily management of a large transit project. The role provides strategic input to construction planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and workforce resourcing, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and training requirements. More importantly, the Construction Manager will manage a successful team and help develop future construction professionals.
This position will be located in Toronto.
What You Will Be Working On
- The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and enforcing project‑specific safety programs; supervising safe work practices; conducting regular site inspections and safety meetings; addressing hazards and unsafe conditions; ensuring proper incident reporting and investigations; and holding all staff, subcontractors, and suppliers accountable for safe performance.
- Lead and promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across all project activities by ensuring full compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Planning, scheduling, setting objectives and controlling activities during the construction phase of a project(s) in conjunction with the project team.
- Manage and lead a construction team of field engineers, construction leads, and superintendents to execute work safely and efficiently, ensuring quality standards and schedule adherence across both self‑perform and subcontracted scopes.
- Review and analysis of project progress reports, and schedule, quality and procurement plans.
- Work with Engineering during construction to facilitate solutions to design issues and challenges.
- Facilitate and run construction management meetings between Contractors, the Owner, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years’ experience as a Construction Manager on large scale rail or major infrastructure projects across both self‑perform and subcontracted scopes.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
- Your demonstrated leadership, project management and problem-solving skills support your collaborative approach to delivering results and developing team members.
- Strong understanding of risk management.
- Demonstrated advanced ability to engage teams and drive high performance through expert knowledge of construction safety standards and a strong commitment to fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting contract requirements, including contractor / client negotiations with advanced communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with the Project Owner, Project Team, and key stakeholders.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including MS Project; experience with Viewpoint Project Management system will be considered an asset.
