Our client is looking for a technically strong Mechanical Design Engineer with a practical understanding of mechanical systems, piping and process equipment. This role will suit an engineer who enjoys detailed design work and wants to be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from engineering and drafting through to fabrication and site commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs for water treatment and industrial process plants.
- Produce and update P&IDs in line with project requirements.
- Prepare GA, fabrication, manufacturing and installation drawings.
- Design pipework layouts and mechanical plant arrangements.
- Develop accurate 3D models and assembly drawings.
- Compile Bills of Materials for engineering and procurement purposes.
- Provide technical input during equipment and material procurement.
- Work closely with workshop and fabrication teams to resolve technical queries.
- Conduct site inspections and measurements as required.
- Prepare as-built drawings following installation.
- Support project teams during installation, commissioning and handover.
- Maintain consistent mechanical design standards and drawing quality.
- Liaise with engineers, project teams, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure designs are practical and fit for purpose.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng, BTech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a similar qualification.
- 3–8 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Inventor or SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Experience with detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
- Working knowledge of pumps, valves, piping and process equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret and develop P&IDs.
- Strong technical drawing and documentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering environment.
- Able to travel to project sites when required.
