Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Program Management Construction Management (PMCM) Group is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to work on large, complex wastewater projects with current total construction value more than $500M using Design-Bid-Build and Progressive Design Build delivery methods. The Senior Construction Manager will be qualified to support management of program construction activities in a fast-paced, professional, design and delivery environment. Projects may include improvements to wastewater treatment facilities and related collection and distribution systems.
The role is co-located and embedded with client staff and other consultants in Cincinnati, OH, with the other members of the Stantec team, working full-time in office and field settings with regular visits to active construction sites.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of significant Water PMCM Construction Management (CM) projects to ensure project goals and objectives are met, administer the owner’s construction-related contracts, and coordinate project delivery with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage multiple large complex initiatives and/or projects simultaneously.
- Implement company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards for compliance.
- Lead and/or participate in constructability and construction sequencing reviews, contract document development, and contractor bid/proposal review activities.
- Provide input to the development of project schedules, coordinate the work according to approved schedules, report schedule deviations, and provide recommendations on any schedule modifications.
- Prepare project delivery related paperwork, processes and procedures and work with consultants and contractors to achieve required approvals.
- Advise owner and project teams on delivery challenges, participate in the decision-making process, and develop policies and procedures for implementation.
- Prepare and provide input to contract documents, including scopes of work and schedules.
- Serve as owner’s contract manager for assigned construction projects.
- Oversee day-to-day construction management efforts to ensure the project(s) are constructed in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, and quality goals.
- Coordinate onsite construction activities by liaising with owner’s operations and maintenance personnel, field staff, third party consultants, utility companies, public agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and general public.
- Maintain records of activities including work completed and inspected, report deviations from contract documents, and follow through with responsible party until resolution.
- Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings, claims, change orders, payment applications, and other project work products.
- Schedule and coordinate reviews, inspections and shutdown related activities.
- Review daily inspection reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Review material test reports for compliance with specifications.
- Oversee equipment testing, training, startup, commissioning, closeout, and warranty activities.
- Oversee post-construction phase, review final punch lists and payment request, monitor completion of Correction Period activities, and track warranties.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials
- Thorough knowledge of construction management principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with project team, contractor, design professionals, owner's management and staff, regulatory representatives, and external parties, including ability to resolve conflict situations.
- Experience with construction management of water/wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, pipeline and conveyance facilities, and other water utility infrastructure.
- Experience with collaborative delivery contracting methods including CMAR, Progressive Design Build and Fixed Price Design Build.
- Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule with capacity to handle multiple tasks and projects, concurrently, and quickly adapt to new priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to exceptional client service.
- Accountable for making decisions on large complex projects.
- Highly effective in managing contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, sub-consultants and equipment suppliers/vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and positive relationships.
- Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills, using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and project management information systems (Trimble e-Builder/Unity Construct preferred.).
Education and Experience
- Degree in construction management or engineering (civil) or other related engineering field with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience or technical school 2-year degree/diploma in a related program with a minimum 12-14 years.
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of a wide range of medium to complex projects including Collaborative Delivery.
- Experience working on large complex projects with construction value in excess of $100M (water/wastewater experience preferred).
- 10+ years of construction management experience, preferably in water/wastewater.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification preferred.
- OSHA and MSHA training and certification preferred.
