Introduction

Lead construction delivery on one of New Zealand's largest solar farm projects.

Full-time, fixed-term | 50 hours per week | 6-8 month project contract

New Energy are adding to their onsite leadership team at Ruakākā Solar Farm and are seeking an experienced Construction Manager.

With construction already well underway, this role provides an opportunity to step into a significant renewable energy project; leading teams from the front and overseeing onsite construction activities.

Reporting to the Project Manager, this role drives team, material, and workflow coordination. It works closely with Senior Supervisors and site leadership and is accountable for planning, process tracking, SOP and safety compliance, and performance reporting. With oversight across multiple construction work fronts, the Construction Manager leads briefings, mentors site leaders, resolves issues, and ensures continuous improvement.



Description

What You'll Do

  • Lead all on-site construction activities to meet project timelines, specifications, and budget.
  • Act as delegate for the Project Manager when required, ensuring smooth site operations.
  • Maintain and monitor 3-week lookaheads, forecasting tools, and workflow efficiency.
  • Manage subcontractors, permits, work requests, and quality of completed works.
  • Oversee site safety in collaboration with the HSE Manager & Leads ensuring compliance with all protocols and SOPs.
  • Mentor and support Senior Supervisors to achieve daily targets and high standards.
  • Drive quality assurance by addressing gaps, planning training, and ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Provide technical oversight across key build activities (e.g., piling, framing, cable reticulation, module installation).
  • Foster a professional, collaborative, and safety-first culture across the site.


Skills And Experiences

What You'll Bring to the Role 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.
  • Proven construction/project management and civil works experience (3+ years).
  • Project Management certification and degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and schedules.
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Sound knowledge of health & safety best practices.
  • Physically fit, reliable, and team-oriented with a positive approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • First Aid Certificate and relevant machinery/HSE certifications (e.g., WTR, EWP, WAH, Forklift) advantageous.
  • Full NZ Class 1 Driver License (Class 2 preferred).
