Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, coordinate, and manage all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Plan, organise, and oversee daily site operations, ensuring efficient allocation of labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with Eskom/NTCSA specifications, ORHVS requirements, project contractual obligations, SHEQ standards, and all applicable legislation.
- Manage and supervise site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring work is carried out efficiently and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and construction programmes.
- Review construction schedules and monitor project progress, identifying delays, risks, and resource constraints while implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Coordinate outages, switching operations, permits, and access requirements with Eskom, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure safe execution of works.
- Conduct regular site inspections, quality audits, and progress assessments to verify compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring all personnel adhere to company SHEQ policies, risk assessments, safe work procedures, and ORHVS regulations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate construction risks while proactively resolving technical, operational, and contractual challenges.
- Review and approve method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), construction documentation, and quality records before implementation.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure effective communication and successful project delivery.
- Monitor project costs, labour productivity, equipment utilisation, and material consumption to support effective budget control and resource management.
- Ensure procurement and material deliveries align with construction schedules to minimise project delays and optimise productivity.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress reports, site diaries, quality reports, and other project documentation.
- Manage site handovers, commissioning support, punch-list completion, and project close-out activities to ensure successful project completion.
- Mentor, coach, and develop supervisors and site personnel while fostering teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across construction teams.
- Investigate incidents, non-conformances, and quality deviations, implementing corrective and preventative actions to improve project performance.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience:
- National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Electrical, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
- Valid ORHVS certification (Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems) – NON-NEGOTIABLE
- Minimum 8–10 years' construction experience, with at least 5 years in a Construction Management role.
- Proven experience managing Eskom/NTCSA transmission line, substation, or overhead powerline projects.
- Strong knowledge of EPC/PC project environments.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Construction management of high-voltage transmission line and/or substation projects.
- Overseeing multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors.
- Working within live electrical environments and planned outage programmes.
- Managing project schedules, budgets, quality, and safety performance.
- Client liaison and stakeholder management within Eskom or utility environments.
- Contract administration and construction reporting.
