Position Summary
Taylor University believes that a high-quality built environment is an important contributor to the student experience and the success of our programs.  Taylor has a goal of increasing its campus population by 500 students, which requires many new construction and renovation projects.
As the Interior Design Coordinator for Taylor University’s campus, you will work with the Construction Services department to coordinate interior design selections, furnishings, and signage to create engaging user experiences and reinforce the Taylor University brand.  The work emphasizes thoughtful collaboration with university departments as well as vendors, construction project managers, architects, and interior designers to deliver purposeful spaces and steward resources well.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Participate alongside the Construction Services team in all phases of design projects from design development, through construction management and installation.
  • Consult with stakeholders to determine programming goals, space requirements, and desired user experience.
  • Prepare space plans, finish selections, and furniture layouts for review with stakeholders. On select projects, work in conjunction with architect’s interior design team. 
  • Plan for and order interior wayfinding and exterior building signage.
  • Contribute to the development of project scope documents and budgets 
  • Source, bid, value engineer, purchase, and schedule installation of all FF&E.  Implement cost control measures and ensure that work is completed according to specifications.
  • Manage approvals, contracts, purchasing, and invoice processing for all FF&E.
  • Communicate regularly with campus representatives, contractors and team members throughout the project, providing status updates and handling any questions or changes.
  • Develop strong working relationships and trade accounts with key vendors; negotiate contracts effectively.
  • Update and maintain campus standards for finishes, FF&E, lighting, wayfinding signage, exterior building signage, and other design elements.  Work with departments to develop specifications for each project consistent with the campus standards.
  • Maintain electronic documentation of all projects, warranties, selections, furnishings, and equipment for future reference.
  • Develop and oversee planning for furniture replacement and other refurbishment across campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 2 years of interior design experience strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years Purchasing Experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial interior design and FF&E specifications.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with clients, vendors, designers, construction, and general contractors.
  • Ability to navigate and interpret architectural, interior design drawings and design specifications.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously with a high level of accuracy.
  • Motivation and a drive to succeed and grow within the organization.
