Position Overview:

A hotel interior designer is responsible for creating aesthetically pleasing, functional, and safe interior spaces within hotels. Their primary role involves designing spaces that reflect the hotel's brand identity while also meeting the needs and preferences of guests. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Concept Development: Collaborate with hotel owners, managers, and other stakeholders to understand their vision, brand identity, and target market. Develop design concepts that align with these requirements, considering factors such as theme, ambiance, and functionality.
  • Space Planning: Utilize space effectively to maximize functionality and efficiency within the hotel's interior areas, including guest rooms, lobbies, restaurants, lounges, spas, and other public spaces. Ensure that traffic flow and usability are optimized.
  • Interior Design: Select and coordinate elements such as furniture, fixtures, lighting, flooring, wall coverings, window treatments, and decorative accessories to create cohesive and visually appealing interiors. Source materials and furnishings that meet quality standards and budgetary constraints.
  • Color Palette and Material Selection: Choose appropriate color schemes, textures, and materials that enhance the desired ambiance and align with the hotel's branding. Consider factors such as durability, maintenance requirements, and guest comfort.
  • Customization and Brand Integration: Integrate elements of the hotel's branding, culture, and heritage into the interior design to create a unique and memorable guest experience. Customize design elements to reflect the hotel's identity while maintaining functionality and aesthetics.
  • Collaboration with Architects and Contractors: Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the construction or renovation of hotel properties. Ensure that design concepts are implemented according to specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Budget Management: Develop project budgets and timelines in collaboration with project managers and financial stakeholders. Monitor expenditures throughout the design process to ensure that projects stay within budget constraints while maintaining quality standards.
  • Presentation and Communication: Present design concepts, mood boards, renderings, and samples to clients and stakeholders to communicate design ideas effectively. Solicit feedback and incorporate revisions as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Project Coordination: Oversee the implementation of design projects from conception to completion, coordinating with vendors, suppliers, craftsmen, and other professionals involved in the execution of the design plan. Ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Conduct site inspections and quality checks to ensure that design specifications are met during the construction or renovation process. Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to interior design and construction.
  • Trends Research and Innovation: Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in the field of interior design, particularly within the hospitality industry. Incorporate new ideas and best practices into design projects to enhance guest experiences and stay competitive in the market.

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree from an accredited interior design program preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in the design field, preferably in the hospitality design industry.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • NCIDQ certificate preferred.
