NELSON is currently seeking an Interior Designer III to join our Workplace Practice in Atlanta. The Interior Designer III is responsible for developing, organizing and executing the conceptual design of a project as well as utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced Revit skills
  • Advanced in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop
  • Ability to manage, mentor and delegate to Interns, Designer Is and II as needed to complete drawings, documents, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness; consistently share such knowledge with Teammates.
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials to carryout design intent.
  • Advanced Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements.
  • Knowledge of the construction process from bidding through construction administration, roles of consultants, contractors, construction schedules, phasing, inspections, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame and/or deadline.
  • Knowledge of expectations related to high quality service to clients
  • Possess space planning skills and interest in programming
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign preferred
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006 preferred
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Support the Project Manager and project team in understanding /establishing project goals and objectives including workplan, schedule, budget parameters.
  • Lead, facilitate and manage the overall design process for smaller scale projects under the direction of the Design Director.
  • Contribute to fee proposals and project work plans.
  • Conduct programming efforts such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination.
  • Develop innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which is reflective of client goals and within project budget.
  • Support all phases of a design project which includes contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications and construction, including the selection and specification of furniture.
  • Participate in maintaining positive client relationships throughout project. 
  • Participate with selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and artwork.
  • Solicit bids and assist Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the materials, finishes, and furnishings.
  • Participate in keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule in conjunction with Project Manager.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.
  • Lead the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI’s, CO’s, reviewing shop drawings and involved in the field site reviews.
  • Ensure project documentation is compliant with NELSON standards.
  • Implement and utilize NELSON Standards for all projects and processes.
  • May assist with negotiating fees and contracts.
  • Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • Provide research and compile data during design phases.
  • Prepare and modify interior architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • Support the team in collecting information for client assessment; may attend interviews, provide documentation support; developing skills working with Affinity program tool.

 

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from an accredited University PLUS:
  • 7+ years’ experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience working in the field of Architecture.

 

National salary range: $65,000 – $85,000 (7+ years experience). Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits (compensation factors are based upon years of relevant experience, qualifications/licensure, education, and location.) Bonuses can include but are not limited to: Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing
