Our Business
Environment, Parks and Sustainability delivers key services that support Brisbane’s environmental outcomes and community wellbeing. The business unit focuses on safe and effective program delivery, strong governance and customer-focused services, working across Council to deliver sustainable, high-quality outcomes for the city.
Our Branch
The Natural Environment, Water and Sustainability (NEWS) branch leads the protection and management of Brisbane’s natural environment, including open spaces, waterways and parklands. It drives sustainability initiatives that enhance liveability, build environmental resilience and support Brisbane’s transition to a clean, green and low-carbon city through partnerships, planning and community engagement.
The Role
This is a fantastic entry point into strategic urban planning within Council, offering the opportunity to work on projects that shape Brisbane’s natural environment and public spaces. As an Urban Planner, you will contribute to strategic planning initiatives, research and community engagement activities that influence how parks, open spaces and natural assets are developed and managed. Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll help deliver planning outcomes that enhance liveability, sustainability and long-term city growth, while building your capability across both strategic and statutory planning.
In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of planning projects from concept through to implementation, contributing to analysis, reporting and stakeholder engagement. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, developing trusted relationships while ensuring projects are delivered on time and to high standards. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging planner to build a strong foundation in policy, planning and community-focused outcomes within a high-performing and purpose-driven environment.
