Job Summary:
Nicklaus Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our team. This is not an entry-level position and requires a minimum of eight years of professional experience in an architectural firm. This role is comparable to an AIA Architect Level III position and requires the application of advanced architectural knowledge, professional judgment, and independent decision-making.
The Project Architect is responsible for managing architectural projects through all phases of design and construction administration while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and project requirements. The Project Architect provides technical leadership, oversees design development and documentation, and mentors junior staff. This role contributes to the continued growth of the architecture department while delivering high-quality architectural solutions for commercial, municipal, and federal clients.
Project Architect also participates in ongoing safety and equipment training to ensure proper and safe performance of all duties.
This is a permanent, full-time position, exempt position.

Work Schedule:
- This position is expected to fulfill job responsibilities as required to meet project demands. Workdays are typically scheduled Monday through Friday, with flexibility based on project needs.

- Manage Architecture projects through all phases of design (conceptual to construction documents) and through construction.
- Apply advanced architectural principles, professional judgment, and independent decision-making in the development of design solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to design staff and drafters.
- Leads and oversee the preparation of construction documents.
- Develop and review project specifications and technical documentation.
- Prepare and evaluate construction cost estimates during design phases.
- Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions.
- Effectively, interpret and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
- Perform QA/QC and technical reviews.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with project team, subconsultants, and clients.
- Mentor, provide oversight, and monitor the work performed by junior staff.
- Coordinate workload of team members through multiple phases to complete documents on schedule and budget.
- Perform construction administration tasks, including review of shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, preparing site observation reports, and documentation.
- Some travel and field work may be required.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit and Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Experience preparing architectural contract documents and specifications.
- Experience in the areas of commercial, municipal and/or military facilities.
- Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED.
- Knowledge of Photoshop and SketchUp.
- Strong knowledge of codes and ADA requirements.
- Knowledge of architectural systems, components and assemblies.
- Technical knowledge of Architectural detailing.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to be independent and work with little supervision.
- Strong knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness .
- Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to hand sketch and/or communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
- Perform other professional duties and responsibilities as required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of professional architectural experience in an architectural or multidisciplinary design firm.
License and Certification Requirements:
- Architectural license preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and Evidence of Insurability.
