Description

Wood is looking to appoint a Senior Construction Manager on the Etango Mine construction site. The site is 35km from Swakopmund. The project is for the construction of an 8mtpa Uranium mine. Civil and Earthworks are currently ongoing on site and Wood requires a Senior Construction Manager to support the current team.

  • Review the required site Man Power Plan (MPP) with construction management and confirm resource  adequacy.
  • As the Company's representative in the field, organise, administer and control construction in accordance with Company and Client requirements.
  • Be fully familiarised with the applicable contract requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Provide effective communication between colleagues, contractors and the Client.
  • Promote health and safety and ensure OHSA Act is strictly adhered to.
  • Ensure that all construction contractors’ supervision and manpower comply with all aspects of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policy, site regulations and permit to work procedures.
  • Apply professionalism and efficiency.
  • Ensure that construction contractors working within his discipline adhere strictly to the latest Approved for Construction (AFC) project drawings, Specifications, QCP’s and Procedures.
  • Ensure the timeous submission of accurate Daily Diaries including verification of contractors  Daily Diaries


Responsibilities
  • Assist the Construction Manager Etango Project in preparing all reports relative to the work progress in his area and attend progress meetings as and when required.
  • Take over the DOA of the Etango Construction Manager when away on R&R / Leave etc.
  • Maintain security to ensure that the general public and third parties are not at risk or exposed to any construction hazard and that company and client property, equipment and materials are safeguarded.
  • Review contractors method statements.
  • Ensure that contractors carry out task risk assessments applicable to their method statements.
  • Manage and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with colleagues, Contractor and Client.
  • Comply with Company and Client Non Disclosure Agreements, Intellectual Property and compliance, pertinent to the Project and associated activities.
  • Set targets, objectives and clear responsibilities for all supervised staff, progressively monitor individual performance against the agreed criteria.
  • Deputise for any other Construction Position to support Project needs.
  • Review and assess the project drawings and specifications to ensure correct instructions are provided for the work content described.
  • Ensure proper control of TQ’s to ensure responses are appropriate and practical along with providing input relating to Technical queries.
  • Ensure ARN’s (Advance Revision Notifications) are actioned appropriately.
  • Ensure that AFC Drawings registers are reviewed on a weekly basis in order to ensure that ony latest revisions are utilised in the field.
  • Ensure contractor’s site productivity and efficiency results in meeting or exceeding project targets.
  • Attend/facilitate daily construction interface meetings with Wood South Africa Construction Manager, contractors and the client.
  • Ensure that the completion, acceptance and handover procedures are progressively implemented and adhere to.
  • Review Project schedule on a weekly basis and provide any comments to the Project Planner if any. Ensure Project Schedule is adhered to including but not limited i.e. material, resources, equipment avaiability.
  • Ensure that shop fabrication priorities are in line with the planned field installation requirements.
  • Continually monitor the installation progress comparing planned and actual progress measures claimed by the Contractor. Inform Construction Manager of shortfalls and anomalies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the project labour requirements to ensure adequate resources is provided by the contractor. Check contractors’ daily labour allocations per work front to achieve Project Schedule requirements.
  • Ensure contractor ratio of supervision to DFL (Direct Field Labour) is adequate and in accordance with contractor contract bid and is being deployed at work fronts.
  • Coordinate the contractors and vendors’ to supply necessary equipment, and services as required by the Contract.
  • Ensure contractors  adhere to preservation requirements of project materials and equipment.
  • Ensure contractors plant and equipment is deployed efficiently, effectively and safely. Ensure plans are in place to address future requirements.
  • Maintain the required standards of site discipline, timekeeping, safety and enforce site regulations and Client procedures where necessary.
  • By monitoring overtime incidence, ensure that overtime sanctioning is strictly within management and site policies.
  • Ensure the Construction Manager is fully briefed on progress, any field problems and current trends. Provide coordination between field activities and site office staff.
  • Ensure any IR issues, grievances or potential problems with the DFL workforce to be reported to the Construction Manager.
  • In conjunction with contract administration staff ensure all communication to/from construction contractors including variations, instructions and notices are strictly in accordance with the contract.
  • Ensure pre-commissioning work is adequately planned, supervised and resourced with labour, plant and equipment.
  • Inspection and surveillance checks to be carried out progressively on constructed work. Notify contractor of any deviations from AFC drawings and specifications promptly.
  • Responsible for quality aspects of the work within assigned areas and for ensuring construction contractors complete their work in accordance with the project schedule. Ensure all QC and related quality activities conform to specifications and standards.
    • For the following disciplines: Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Control and Instrumentation:
    • The Quality Control responsibility will be performed by the relevant discipline Supervisor i.e. Indicating hold points on QCP’s, review of QCP’s, Punching, signing of hold points, interface with all QC personnel (eg. Structural Welding, loop checks, bump tests, etc.).
  • Routinely review the construction contractors’ scope within his area as detailed in drawings, specifications, requisitions and instructions, ensuring contractors proper interpretation and compliance with latest revision AFC issues.
  • Ensure that there is adequate contractor supervision on site to maintain proper levels of safety and productivity as per contract.
  • Assist in maintaining proper security and safeguards Client property, equipment, tools and materials, ensuring, by good housekeeping that items are not left around the site with a risk of loss or damage.
  • Ensure plant equipment certification is current and available at site with inspection and maintenance carried out in the prescribed manner.


Qualifications

Qualifications and recommended experience: 

  • Trade (i.e. Boilermaker, Fitter, Electrisian, etc.) – 12 years experience, or
  • N6 (National Diploma) – 10 years experience, or
  • S4 (Higher National Diploma) – 8 years experience, or
  • B Degree – 6 years expierence
