The Senior Transportation Planner 2 provides complex planning services including preparing transportation system plans, modal plans, long-range plans, transportation studies, transportation planning work programs, and other transportation-related planning documents. Duties including conducting research, data analysis, technical writing, and plan development, leading public meetings and outreach, preparing presentation materials and graphics, agency and stakeholder coordination, and other duties as assigned. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, desire to learn new skills, mentor others with less experience, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. A Senior Transportation Planner 2 should demonstrate excellent proficiency in and assist with managing transportation planning concepts, apply functions including land use and transportation relationships, short-range and long-range planning, transportation system planning and analyses and evaluation, transportation public policy, traffic engineering, environmental analysis, public involvement and communications, land use planning and community development. A Senior Transportation Planner 2 exercises discretion and judgement in all work tasks. This person is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek input and guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary. This position primarily works autonomously and without oversight.
Team player and team leader with the ability to follow on large or complex projects. Provides clear communication and direction, sets expectations, and takes responsibility for results of the team.
Leads the production of and provides quality control for the following:
Strong understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets. Able to predict and deliver individual tasks within a set level of effort. Develops budgets and schedules for complex tasks and projects. Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks. Able to consistently meet budget and schedule expectations on projects. Able to prioritize multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget. Mentors others on above.
Frequent direct communications with clients on large/complex projects. Leads technical client project meetings. Understands appropriate messaging and legal risks. Participates in project interviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Primarily performs advanced technical tasks on complex, demanding projects for the market sector. Operates with a high level of autonomy. Reviews the work of others. Mentors others with less experience. May provide some project management services.
