Senior Transportation Planner

As a Senior Transportation Planner, you will work within a dynamic Transportation Planning & Engineering (TP&E) team within the Planning and Community Development (PCD) department. TP&E is responsible for a wide range of transportation functions, including developing and overseeing implementation of transportation strategies that align with the vision and policies in Redmond 2050 and the transformation of Redmond from “suburb to city.” Fueled by East Link (scheduled to fully open in Q2 2026), rapid growth, and a community seeking more sustainable transportation options, this is an exciting time for transportation planning and project implementation in Redmond!

As a Senior Transportation Planner, you will work collaboratively within a team and bring independent judgement and rigor in the application of planning principles in policy development, analysis, plan development, and community engagement. The following duties and responsibilities are essential to your role:

• Project management including defining scope of projects, conducting technical research and studies, collecting and analyzing data, evaluating and formulating options and solutions in relation to operational directives, managing consultants, monitoring scopes, schedules and budgets, preparing staff reports, and presenting recommendations.
• Serve as lead author for an array of deliverables, including plans, reports, community surveys, and project websites. This will require strong, concise writing that is appropriate for a lay audience.
• Coordinate with subject matter experts within the City and other governmental agencies on transportation policies and plans; organize and serve on multi-agency technical review committees; serve as an interagency coordinator and representative for the City of Redmond.
• Brief and deliver presentations to the public, management staff, and elected officials; provide information for various public information materials.
• Lead public engagement efforts, which could include focus groups, walking tours, pop-up tabling events, farmers’ markets, etc. Speak about planning projects confidently with a wide variety of community members.
• Performs code research and provides technical assistance in the interpretation of codes and regulations related to assigned programs
• Identifies and supports grant applications for programs assigned, including coordinating activities necessary to secure the grants and coordinating grant administration

• Knowledge and ability to plan for multi-modal streets and networks, including experience planning for people walking, bicycling, and taking transit, experience planning for freight and urban goods delivery, and/or emerging mobility options.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban planning, urban design and development, public policy, civil engineering or related disciplines.
• Master's degree desired but not required.
• Four to six years of professional experience in the above fields. 
• Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
