Dekker is seeking a creative and motivated Interior Design Student Intern to join our team for a summer internship. This role offers hands-on experience in all phases of the design process, including concept development, space planning, material selection, and project coordination. The intern will support designers with research, presentations, and client deliverables while gaining exposure to real-world projects in a collaborative studio environment. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about design, with strong communication and basic design software skills.


Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively engages in project work with responsibilities as assigned 
  • Prepares scaled drawings and contract documents for building contractors using Revit 
  • Researches and identifies products (finishes, fixtures, etc.) 
  • Researches codes and other standards as necessary for compliance 
  • Assists in the preparation of studies, reports, and presentations 
  • Plans diagrams/layouts during schematic design, demonstrating ability to arrange a unified design 
  • Joins team members on occasion for onsite observation of work during C.A. to monitor compliance with plans 
  • Assists in proper documentation of project files 
  • Assists in developing furniture packages and specifications 
  • Provides general drafting and visualization support while following Dekker standards  
  • Completes tasks essential for proficiency in interior design principles as outlined by the Council for Interior Design Qualification, with direction 
  • Identifies and communicates progress, accomplishments, challenges, and support needed to complete responsibilities 


Qualifications 

  • In the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in interior design or architecture.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with Revit is required.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite
