The asset management planner role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of transportation asset management at the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) by leading department-wide initiatives that enhance data-driven decision-making and strengthen coordination across all asset areas. The position plays a central role in developing the enterprise asset management system, improving the consistency and quality of asset data, and aligning asset management activities with broader departmental efforts such as digitalization, data integration and strategic investment planning. Ideal candidates will thrive in a collaborative, strategic environment where they can influence processes, support cross-department partnerships and help advance MDOT’s long-term asset management vision.

Required Education and Experience

Education 

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following:  planning (city, community, environmental, regional, and/or urban), environmental studies and/or sustainability, environmental sciences, engineering, statistics, mathematics, geography, geographic/geospatial information systems, logistics and/or supply chain management, or economics.

 
Experience 
Transportation Planner 12
Three years of professional experience in the planning, mapping, or assessment of transportation, land use, environmental, or community systems equivalent to a Transportation Planner, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Planner P11.

  • Attach a one-page written overview describing your experience with transportation asset management, including the types of assets you have worked with and how you have used inventory, condition, or lifecycle information to support planning or decision-making as well as how would your experience help you fulfill the responsibilities of this role. Failure to do so may result in being screened out of the process.
