Transportation Planner

Job Summary

The Transportation Planner contributes to the development of traffic demand analyses and forecasts, transportation master plan studies, traffic impact studies, road safety assessments, etc. for non-complex projects in Middle East. He works closely with senior project team members for the review and validation of deliverables to ensure the proper implementation of all client requirements. The jobholder shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the transport planning and traffic engineering field and share his knowledge with his team members, as applicable.

Key Responsibilities (Financial)

• Ensure responsibilities are fulfilled with a high quality and in a cost effective manner
• Support Project Managers with the management of client relations and expectations, as needed
• Support Project Managers in client presentations and workshops, as needed
• Support Project Managers with responding to client clarifications and technical issues, as needed
• Ensure client satisfaction with transport planning and traffic engineering deliverables
• Conduct data collection for transportation planning and traffic engineering projects in coordination with project teams (e.g. traffic counts, etc.)
• Closely work with Traffic Modelers for the development of traffic models, network simulations for non-complex transport planning and traffic engineering projects
• Closely work with Traffic Modelers for the calculation of trip generation and origin-destination matrices, and calculating and analyzing traffic volumes for non-complex projects
• Prepare drawings, including circulation and parking plans, signage etc. for non-complex projects
• Prepare transportation and traffic impact studies reports for non-complex projects
• Validate and review transport and traffic impact studies with clients and authorities for non-complex projects
• Perform peer review on other teams’ design deliverables
• Implement corporate policies and procedures
• Upload relevant sanitized Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering deliverables in the knowledge management repository as per corporate policies and procedures
• Attend periodic training to further develop relevant skills

Qualification, Technical Skills and Competencies Required to Execute this Role

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline and Masters in Transportation Engineering 
• Chartered or Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred
• In depth knowledge in traffic engineering and transport planning
• Knowledge of transport / land use planning, traffic modeling, ITS and other information systems
• Familiarity with traffic modeling software, such as VISUM, VISSIM, Synchro, MXROAD, SIDRA, HCS, AutoTURN, CUBE, etc
• Strong operational modeling skills
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage

Overall Experience Required to Execute this Role

• 5-8 years of industry experience in the transportation planning and traffic engineering
• Familiarity with development of traffic impact studies and traffic engineering plans
• Experience in the Middle East is preferred
