Position Summary
The Transportation Planner facilitates communication between production, sales, and distribution stages to promote a healthy and efficient supply chain. This position will secure capacity for all in-bound and out-bound freight movements by utilizing in-house providers and, when necessary, engaging additional capacity.
Essential Functions/Key Deliverables
Coordinate transportation providers to ensure prompt and proper movement of shipments.
Analyze and source the most cost effective and timely capacity for planned and unplanned freight movements both domestic and international based on sales forecasts.
Evaluate, diagnose, and respond to customer inquiries and refer clients to the proper channels.
Review purchase orders, shipping documents and stock on hand to ensure accuracy for upcoming shipments.
Coordinate and monitor inbound dunnage returns in order to increase operational efficiencies.
Analyze FTL (full truckload) and LTL (less than truckload) shipping requests to maximize service and minimize cost based on daily ad hoc needs.
Track, monitor, and audit daily load plan to minimize shipping errors.
Audit, verify and authorize invoices.
Manage distribution and shipment budgets.
Ensure that the quality of all services provided meets the required contractual customer standards.
Identify and develop processes for increased efficiencies in the supply chain.
Provide proof of deliveries as requested by customers.
Schedule loading and unloading appointments with the ability to strategically modify the load schedule as needed.
Prepare and verify all necessary customs documents and customs broker for any shipment crossing an international border.
Perform any other duty reasonable corresponding with the role.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 3 years prior logistics/transportation experience.
Experience with automated Transportation Management Systems (TMS) required.
Previous SAP experience a plus.
MS Office with exceptional ability to utilize excel to analyze data and prepare reporting.
Strong critical-thinking skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy and organization.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to function both independently and as part of a team; must be flexible and excited to grow with the organization.
