Job Description
OTHON is seeking a full-time, on-site Transportation Planner / Engineer for our Austin, TX office. The position supports our Transportation Planning and Data Analytics group on transportation planning studies for TxDOT, MPOs, cities, counties, and other public agencies, including corridor and mobility plans, evacuation and safety planning, traffic forecasting, and GIS-based data analysis.

Responsibilities
• Assist with traffic forecasting, traffic operations analysis, travel demand modeling, and evaluation of alternatives.
• Support planning studies including corridor and mobility studies, transit planning, evacuation route planning, and safety (SS4A-type) analyses.
• Build, edit, and analyze geospatial data in ArcGIS Pro, and produce maps, exhibits, and web/field map applications for project teams and clients.
• Collect, compile, and analyze transportation, traffic, safety, and demographic data, documenting sources, assumptions, and QC steps.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, tables, graphics, and presentations that meet TxDOT and client deliverable standards.
• Coordinate with project managers, task leads, and other disciplines; track assignments against schedule and raise issues early.
• Participate in project and client meetings and document findings, decisions, and recommendations.
Minimum Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu.
• Working proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, including data creation and editing, attribute management, symbology, and map layouts.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and technical writing skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines and communicate progress proactively.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with TxDOT, MPO, city, or county planning deliverables and review processes.
• Travel demand modeling or traffic forecasting (TransCAD, Cube, or similar).
• Traffic operations software (Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, TransModeler, HCS).
• ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Experience Builder, or Python scripting for GIS workflows.
• Data analysis and visualization tools such as Python, SQL, R, or Power BI.
• PE, EIT, or AICP certification.
