The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Transportation Planner to provide technical and administrative support in the area of regional transportation planning; to serve as a liaison between the City the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and NCDOT.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as a liaison between the City and external agencies and organizations.
  2. Coordinate federally mandated transportation planning program for the region; prepare and update the Fayetteville urban area's thoroughfare plan and collector street plan.
  3. Collect and analyze transportation engineering and planning data, providing information for inclusion in technical reports and presentations.
  4. Coordinates the preparation of short and long-range transportation planning studies.
  5. Reviews and analyzes transportation programs and transportation grant programs, including grant preparation and management.
  6. Respond to inquiries, concerns and complaints from the general public on transportation programs.
  7. Prepare and give presentations on transportation plans.
  8. Administer road planning, mapping, and other related items of consultant contracts for the City.
  9. Represent the City and the department at various meetings.
  10. Participate on the Technical Review Committee charged with reviewing developer plans.
  11. Coordinate and actively participate in high-level policy and planning meetings with applicable agencies and the general public to improve overall transportation safety, mobility, and livability in and around Fayetteville while supporting economic development and protecting the environment.
  12. Perform and analyze various transportation studies and special investigations.
  13. Implement and manage the traffic count program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: 
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation planning, transportation engineering or a related field.

Training:
Equivalent to Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in transportation planning, transportation engineering or a related field.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:
None.

Preferred:
Professional Transportation Planner certification (PTP); Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of North Carolina; American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

From the time of closing the selection process is anticipated to last 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
