Architectural Engineer (3-10 Years of Experience)

Klein & Hoffman is seeking a talented and hardworking Architectural Engineering Associate with a passion for unique buildings and problem-solving abilities to add to our team. This position will be responsible for providing services in the following areas: building diagnostics and rehabilitation of building facades, roofs, plazas, waterproofing and windows. The position would also include opportunities for structural engineering for candidates with engineering education/experience.  

In accordance with Illinois pay transparency laws, we are providing a good faith estimate of the salary range for this position. The anticipated salary for this role is [$75,000- $110,000], based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Employees may also be eligible for additional compensation, including bonuses and benefits. This estimate is subject to change based on business needs and market conditions. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to building assessments, design development, and construction phase services
  • Communicate directly with Clients and Contractors
  • Manage tasks for multiple projects with various team members
  • Conduct on-site investigations to document existing conditions and determine cause(s) of problems in existing building enclosures
  • Recognize and document existing building enclosure conditions with drawings, photographs, and other documentation methods
  • Perform field testing utilizing a variety of testing equipment and instrumentation
  • Research and identify technical and code related issues
  • Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving
  • Prepare written reports to clearly communicate findings and recommendations to clients
  • Prepare construction documents including drawings and technical specifications
  • Prepare construction cost estimates
  • Review contractor submittals
  • Perform construction-related site visits to designate work and observe repairs in progress
  • Prepare site visit field reports to document the progress of construction for clients
  • Develop responses to contractor requests for information
  • Participate in professional organizations and networking events

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or related field. Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Licensed Architect preferred (or working toward licensure), or licensed PE or SE with relative experience considered
  • 3 – 6 plus years of practical experience with building enclosure assessment, design, and repair
  • Strong computer skills including AutoCAD, REVIT, and Microsoft Office
  • An interest in building enclosure consulting, field testing, and building restoration
  • Working knowledge of any/all the building enclosure systems including but not limited to masonry and concrete facades, curtainwall, windows and storefronts, stucco and EIFS, roofing, and waterproofing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
  • Able to safely use and/or work on scaffolding equipment
  • Able to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to work from various heights
