Introduction

Our client is a leading supplier of innovative architectural and interior products to the commercial design and construction industry. They are seeking a highly motivated, relationship-driven Architectural Specification Sales Representative to join their Johannesburg team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Architects, Interior Designers, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Developers and other key industry professionals to ensure the company's product ranges are specified on commercial projects. This role combines technical product specification, business development, project tracking and client relationship management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and represent the company's product ranges, including associated brands, to architects, interior designers, developers, project managers and other design professionals.
  • Build long-term relationships with architectural practices, interior design firms and commercial property developers throughout Johannesburg and surrounding regions.
  • Manage the complete architectural specification process from initial client engagement through to project completion.
  • Secure product specifications on commercial projects, ensuring the company's products are incorporated into project documentation and tender specifications.
  • Conduct regular client visits, product presentations, lunch-and-learn sessions and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) presentations to architectural and design practices.
  • Provide technical product advice and specification support during all stages of the design process.
  • Assist architects and designers with product selection, finishes, technical information, compliance requirements and installation recommendations.
  • Work closely with design teams to ensure products are correctly specified in project drawings, schedules and tender documentation.
  • Track projects from concept and design stage through tender, procurement and final installation.
  • Liaise closely with contractors, quantity surveyors, procurement teams and project managers to maximise project conversion opportunities.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the commercial architectural and interior design market.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of upcoming commercial projects using the company's CRM system.
  • Generate new specification opportunities through networking, industry events, exhibitions and referrals.
  • Prepare quotations where required and provide product samples, technical literature and presentations to clients.
  • Collaborate with the internal sales, customer service and operations teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
  • Monitor competitor products, pricing and market trends, providing feedback to management.
  • Achieve monthly and annual specification, sales and business development targets.
  • Maintain exceptional levels of customer service and ongoing client support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare regular sales reports, pipeline forecasts and project updates for management.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years' external sales and specification experience within the architectural, interior design, construction or building products industry.
  • Proven experience calling on Architects, Interior Designers, Developers, Quantity Surveyors and commercial clients.
  • Previous experience with architectural specification selling is essential.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction and architectural project lifecycle.
  • Excellent presentation, networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to confidently conduct CPD presentations and technical product demonstrations.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and closing skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Johannesburg and surrounding areas.
