Introduction

We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Manager with High Voltage and Solar experience to oversee the construction and execution of large-scale solar PV projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.

The candidate must be registered with SACPCMP and have strong experience in solar PV projects and high-voltage electrical infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee construction activities for solar PV projects, including civil, mechanical, and electrical works.

  • Supervise the installation of high-voltage infrastructure, including substations, transformers, switchgear, inverters, and transmission connections.

  • Ensure all construction activities comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, and project schedules.

  • Manage and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and site teams.

  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • Monitor project progress and ensure milestones and deadlines are met.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks.

  • Identify and mitigate construction risks and technical challenges.

  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, and energization of solar and high-voltage systems.

  • Prepare site reports, progress updates, and construction documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with South African regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • SACPCMP registration (Professional Construction Manager / Candidate) – Essential.

  • 8–10+ years’ experience in construction management within the renewable energy or power sector.

  • Proven experience on utility-scale solar PV projects.

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical infrastructure and substation construction.

  • Experience managing large construction teams and subcontractors.

  • Strong understanding of construction safety regulations and quality control procedures.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on EPC solar projects.

  • Knowledge of grid connection requirements and HV systems.

  • Strong leadership, planning, and project coordination skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
