Site Project / Construction Manager and Site Engineer - BESS Projects

As the energy sector transitions from traditional power sources toward renewable and storage‑based solutions, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) play a critical role in enabling reliable, resilient, and sustainable power networks. You can play a key role in enabling and accelerating this transition.

GHD’s Construction Phase Services (CPS) Group is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced professionals with direct BESS project technical and construction experience for Site Project / Construction Manager and Site Engineer roles. These roles are focused on site‑based delivery of BESS projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and high‑quality construction outcomes.

Role Purpose

The roles are responsible for the day‑to‑day management and monitoring of site construction activities. This includes ensuring proper interpretation of contract documents, providing technical information to site personnel, coordinating construction activities, and verifying compliance with specifications, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.

Construction Management Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor day‑to‑day site construction activities for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) works, including civil foundations, container placement, equipment installation, cable containment, power cabling, earthing, and associated auxiliary systems.

• Ensure construction works are carried out in accordance with approved IFC drawings, technical specifications, method statements, ITPs, and contract requirements.

• Provide on‑site technical clarification to contractors and subcontractors regarding drawings, installation details, construction sequencing, and interface requirements between civil, electrical, and BESS equipment works.

• Monitor workmanship, installation tolerances, alignment, routing, and termination of BESS equipment, PCS units, transformers, MV/LV cabling, and earthing systems.

• Coordinate daily site activities with contractors, OEM representatives, and testing teams to ensure proper sequencing of works and readiness for inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.

• Verify that construction activities comply with approved construction methodologies, temporary works requirements, and site safety controls.

• Track daily progress against approved construction schedules and report site progress, constraints, non‑conformances, and technical issues through established project reporting systems.

• Witness and coordinate inspections, testing, and verification activities, including pre‑installation checks, equipment receipt inspections, installation inspections, and readiness checks for energization or commissioning.

• Raise, monitor, and close site quality records, including NCRs, inspection requests, site instructions, and punch list items related to BESS construction works.

• Interface with the HSE team to ensure construction activities are performed safely and in compliance with approved risk assessments, method statements, and site safety rules.

• Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, inspection logs, photographs, and construction documentation relevant to BESS installation works.

Desired Experience

• Proven experience in BESS projects, particularly during construction and commissioning phases

• Experience in power, electrical, or renewable energy infrastructure projects

• Site‑based experience working with EPC contractors, OEMs, and owner’s engineer teams

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, site coordination, and safety requirements for BESS installations
