FXCollaborative leverages broad expertise in architecture, interiors and planning to enrich our world with responsible, intelligent, and beautiful design. The firm’s holistic approach integrates client aspirations, an urban sensibility, and a celebration of the craft of building.  FXCollaborative’s work ranges from the scale of individual buildings and interiors—office towers, multi-family residences, cultural facilities, workplace, K-12 and higher-education institutions—to the city as a whole, addressing infrastructure and transportation.

FXCollaborative is seeking a design-driven Interior Design Director to shape the creative direction of our interiors practice while expanding influence across projects, clients, and the firm.

This role balances design leadership, project leadership, and strategic client engagement. The Interior Design Director will lead complex, high-impact work across sectors including workplace, hospitality, residential, and mixed-use environments, while leading business development efforts, mentoring teams, and helping define the future of the practice.

Position Responsibilities:

Design and Project Management

  • Lead the creative vision and execution of complex interiors projects across multiple sectors
  • Drive concept development through realization, ensuring design excellence, innovation, and clarity of intent
  • Shape spatial strategies, material palettes, lighting concepts, and FF&E with a strong point of view
  • Ensure alignment between design ambition, client goals, budget, and schedule
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, translating insights into forward-thinking design solutions
  • Serve as the primary design lead in client engagement guiding vision, scope, and delivery
  • Oversee project execution to ensure quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction

Business Development and Marketing

  • Contribute to business development, including proposals, interviews, and client outreach
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to align design direction with broader strategic and business goals
  • Generate and maintain leads for new project opportunities with potential clients, industry representatives and consultants
  • Promote and maintain visibility of the firm’s interior practice through teaching, presenting, attending industry conferences, workshops and panel discussions
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships, identifying opportunities for continuous collaborations and growth

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, design excellence, accountability, and creativity
  • Provide guidance and growth opportunities for emerging designers and project leaders
  • Partner with studio leadership on staffing, resource planning, and team development
  • Recruit and assist in strategic hiring for the interiors practice

Qualifications:

  • 10–15+ years of experience in interior design/interior architecture
  • Demonstrated success leading complex projects from concept through completion
  • Strong design, technical, and presentation capabilities
  • Experience managing client relationships and leading project teams
  • Proficiency in project planning, scoping, and proposal development
  • Deep knowledge of programming, space planning, materials, and construction methodologies
  • Experience coordinating with consultants, vendors, and contractors
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and visualization tools
  • Architectural licensing or NCIDQ accreditation required
  • LEED accreditation or interest in sustainable design preferred
