We’re growing again following the successful opening of our Naples showroom in January 2025 and are hiring experienced Interior Design Sales Consultants to join our team.
With 80 years of stability, integrity, and exceptional design, Walter E. Smithe is a trusted, family-owned company. With 10 showrooms across the Chicagoland area and a successful expansion into Naples, Florida, we continue to grow while helping clients create beautifully designed homes.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with clients to design inspiring spaces that reflect their lifestyle and vision 
  • Build lasting client relationships through personalized service and outreach 
  • Conduct in-home visits and use advanced design tools to bring concepts to life 
  • Primarily custom and special order, including private label brands, as well as Century, American Leather, Vanguard, Hancock & Moore, Universal, Hooker, and many others. 
  • Manage multiple projects while achieving individual sales goals 
  • Collaborate with a dedicated support team of client service, accounting, and delivery professionals

Training & Support:

  • Hourly paid training for up to the first 4 months, with the option to transition to commission sooner

Compensation & Benefits:  

  • Performance-based commission structure after training with uncapped earning potential 
  • Commission paid on written sales 
  • Monthly and annual performance-based bonuses 
  • Typical earnings range: $40K – $185K+ (performance-based) 
  • Average commission: 7.71% (6.7%–8.6%)

Requirements

  Who thrives in this role:

  • People-driven professionals energized by client engagement and relationship building 
  • 3+ years of post-grad experience in retail, sales, or interior design with consultative sales expertise 
  • Confident, enthusiastic individuals capable of leading the sales process 
  • Motivated by results and excited by a performance-based career path 
  • Organized, professional, and committed to building a long-term design career 
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and weekend availability
