Job Description:


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Buyer with a strong background in purchasing furniture, fabrics, and materials specific to Interior Design projects as an independent contractor. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Design Manager (DM) software, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and purchase goods related to interior design, including furniture, textiles, and materials
  • Review and accurately document vendor quotes (including freight, tariffs, sales tax, and installation costs) onto proposals & purchase orders
  • Track and manage orders from placement to delivery
  • Maintain and update project budgets accurately
  • Liaise with vendors, office accountant, and bookkeeper
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Interior Design and other team members
  • Ensure accuracy in pricing, invoicing, and order documentation
  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business or related field ideal, but not required)
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably within the interior design industry
  • Proficiency in Design Manager (DM), Excel, and Outlook required
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • Familiarity with freight, tariffs, and varying sales tax regulations
  • Understanding of the interior design process and terminology
  • Ability to read and translate vendor quotes and specifications
  • Experience working with budgets and financial tracking
  • Strong interpersonal and vendor negotiation skills
  • Must be able to commute to NYC office 2-3 days per week
