Job Purpose
The Preconstruction Manager is a key leader responsible for managing the preconstruction phase of major electrical projects, supporting the planning and pursuit efforts for the Stockton location. This role combines technical expertise, strategic planning, and client relationship management to ensure accurate estimates, efficient project planning, and successful pursuit of new business opportunities. As a leader of pursuits, the Preconstruction Manager drives collaboration between internal teams, clients, and subcontractors while representing the company at the local level and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
What You'll Do
- Represent the branch in client and design team meetings, maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Maintain liaison with prime clients and internal teams to facilitate preconstruction activities.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Review total estimates for accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Monitor comparison of estimated costs to actual costs and implement improvements.
- Perform risk and contract management responsibilities on bids.
- Lead preconstruction planning efforts to ensure accurate budgets and schedules for Project Managers.
- Drive risk management strategies and provide clear direction on mitigating potential issues before execution.
- Manage client communication during the preconstruction phase to ensure smooth handoff to Project Managers.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs, scope reviews, and pricing strategies for complex projects.
- Develop competitive bids by leveraging market insights and subcontractor performance data.
- Conduct bid reviews and project handoffs, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Examine construction sites to identify unusual or challenging conditions that may impact project scope or cost.
- Maintain knowledge of regional construction markets.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 12+ years of progressive experience in electrical project management, including experience overseeing multiple projects and managing a team of Project Managers.
- Strong knowledge of construction industry practices, electrical systems, codes, and regulations.
- Leadership & Decision-Making: Lead preconstruction efforts and guide project teams with sound judgment, accountability, and strategic direction.
- Electrical Estimating Expertise: Prepare accurate estimates through detailed quantity take-offs, scope analysis, pricing strategies, and labor forecasting for electrical systems.
- Preconstruction Planning: Lead planning efforts to develop reliable budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies that support successful project execution.
- Team Development & Mentorship: Mentor and coach project managers and estimators to improve performance, consistency, and adherence to best practices.
- Technical Electrical Knowledge: Apply in-depth knowledge of electrical construction methods, NEC requirements, labor units, and material pricing trends.
