A High-Impact Project Role in a Growing Phoenix Studio
MCG Architecture is seeking a collaborative, technically strong Project Architect to help design and deliver a diverse portfolio of retail, fitness, restaurant, multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, and tenant improvement projects.
This role offers meaningful project ownership—from early concept and design through permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration—while working with national, regional, and local clients.
The right candidate combines design judgment with technical discipline. You can translate client and development goals into coordinated, code-compliant, buildable solutions; communicate confidently with project partners; and keep quality, schedule, scope, and budget moving in the same direction.
Who This Job Is Best For
This opportunity is especially well suited for an architect who:
Has progressed beyond a production-only position and is ready to take broader ownership of projects and deliverables.
Enjoys fast-moving commercial work where responsiveness, permitting knowledge, coordination, and practical problem-solving matter.
Is equally comfortable developing documents in Revit, leading consultant coordination, communicating with clients, and resolving construction-phase issues.
Values variety and wants exposure to multiple project types, clients, jurisdictions, and phases of architectural delivery.
Works independently without losing the collaborative mindset required to support colleagues, mentor developing staff, and strengthen a growing office.
Wants a long-term opportunity to become a visible and trusted contributor within MCG Architecture’s Phoenix team.
About MCG Architecture
Founded in 1927, MCG Architecture brings more than 95 years of continuous architectural practice and a nationwide platform serving projects across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
The firm is known for commercial architecture and has expanded its capabilities across retail, national accounts, mixed-use, storage, hospitality, office, land planning, interior design, and production services.
MCG’s approach is grounded in the priorities that matter most to clients and developers: protecting schedules and construction budgets, building durable relationships, responding quickly with practical solutions, applying deep code expertise, and navigating complex jurisdictional review and permitting processes.
What You Will Do
Project Leadership and Delivery
Take ownership of assigned projects from concept and design development through construction documents, permitting, and construction administration.
Translate client programs, development objectives, brand standards, site constraints, and project requirements into thoughtful and buildable architectural solutions.
Develop work plans, establish priorities, track milestones, and help maintain alignment among scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while communicating risks, decisions, and required follow-up clearly and proactively.
Design, Documentation and Technical Quality
Lead and produce coordinated architectural design and construction documents using Revit.
Apply building codes, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, construction methods, and industry practices throughout project development.
Prepare complete permit and AHJ review packages, coordinate responses to plan-check comments, and support projects through approval and permitting.
Review drawings, details, and specifications for coordination, constructability, accuracy, and consistency with project intent.
Support internal QA/QC reviews and incorporate lessons learned into future project delivery.
Client, Consultant and Contractor Coordination
Serve as a reliable point of coordination among clients, developers, internal team members, engineers, specialty consultants, contractors, and public agencies.
Lead or support project meetings, document decisions, assign follow-up items, and maintain clear communication across the project team.
Integrate structural, MEP, civil, landscape, interior, and other consultant information into coordinated project deliverables.
Identify conflicts early and develop practical solutions that protect design intent, constructability, cost, and schedule.
Construction Administration
Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, substitution requests, and change-related documentation.
Prepare construction bulletins, sketches, supplemental instructions, and other documentation required to clarify or modify the work.
Participate in field observations and construction meetings, document conditions, and help resolve issues in a timely and solutions-oriented manner.
Monitor design changes and their potential impact on scope, schedule, cost, permitting, and consultant coordination.
Team Contribution and Professional Growth
Collaborate with project managers, architects, designers, and production staff to maintain consistent delivery standards.
Provide guidance, redlines, technical support, and mentorship to developing team members.
Contribute to office standards, workflows, quality improvements, knowledge sharing, and a culture of accountability.
Continue developing technical, project-management, client-service, and leadership capabilities.
Required Qualifications
7–10 years of professional architectural experience.
Demonstrated experience delivering commercial and/or multifamily projects. Retail, restaurant, fitness, mixed-use, or tenant improvement experience is highly relevant.
Strong Revit proficiency and hands-on experience developing coordinated architectural documents.
Working knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, construction methods, permitting, and professional practice standards.
Experience producing design and construction documents for AHJ review and coordinating consultant deliverables.
Construction administration experience involving RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, bulletins, and field observations.
Ability to work independently, organize competing priorities, meet deadlines, and take accountability for assigned work.
Strong written, verbal, visual, and interpersonal communication skills.
Commitment to responsive client service, technical quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional architectural registration in Arizona or another U.S. jurisdiction.
Candidates actively completing the Architectural Experience Program and Architect Registration Examination will also be considered.
Experience working with national or regional commercial clients, repeat programs, prototypes, tenant rollouts, or developer-led projects.
Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and common project-management or document-control platforms.
Experience coordinating projects across multiple authorities having jurisdiction and responding to plan-review comments.
How Success Will Be Measured
Projects and deliverables are accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, permit-ready, and aligned with client expectations.
Milestones, decisions, risks, and changes are communicated early enough for the team to respond effectively.
Clients, consultants, contractors, and colleagues view you as responsive, prepared, accountable, and solutions-oriented.
Construction-phase questions are resolved promptly with practical solutions that protect the project’s intent and objectives.
Your contribution strengthens the Phoenix office’s technical quality, team capability, client relationships, and capacity for growth.
Why Join MCG Architecture?
Join a long-established architecture firm with more than 95 years of continuous practice and work completed across a broad geographic footprint.
Build a diverse portfolio across retail, fitness, restaurant, multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, and tenant improvement markets.

Work closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and an expanding Phoenix team where your contribution will be visible.
Develop toward broader project leadership, client responsibility, mentorship, and long-term advancement.
