Description

 

The Senior Architect is a licensed architect responsible for leading a client successfully through the entire project. This role manages a team of Architects, Interior Designers, and Technical Designers in support of team projects. They applies diverse knowledge of design principles and practices in a broad array of assignments and related fields. This position guides preparation of floor plans, design development drawings, sections, detail drawings and construction drawings.  This role will oversees production of complete and quality drawings and specifications for construction, obtaining building permits, and project bidding. They serve as the primary contact for clients, contractors and consultants during all project phases. 

Requirements

 

Project Design and Execution 

  • Manages a design team to successfully execute current projects 
  • Responsible for all aspects of a project and team functions including project schedules, final review of project deliverables such as space plans, construction documents, and design development, coordination with contractors, and construction administration  
  • Analyzes building codes, by-laws, interior space requirements, and other technical documents to determine their effect on interior architectural design solutions 
  • Attends construction site meetings to ensure contractor compliance with project design specifications and resolve any design issues 
  • Presents project design at client meetings and any necessary city planning meetings 
  • Oversees work of consultants and their drawings (i.e. civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, etc.) to facilitate complete project designs 
  • Determines project fees and schedules 
  • Writes project proposals 
  • Manages project financial goals including team hours budgets, fee, profitability, contract execution, and additional services 
  • Reviews, approves, and controls billing of their own projects 
  • Executes project schedules and hours budgets created in conjunction with project manager  
  • Partner with a variety of project managers and project teams on extensive renovation, building addition, and ground up projects in the workplace, housing, and healthcare sectors 

Drawing Review and Signing 

  • Leads the QA/QC team to review and sign documents for projects outside those under their direct management, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements  
  • Signs completed project documents for permit/construction 
  • Obtains licensure in various states as required to support entire office workload 

Business Development 

  • Secures a quantity of projects that meet billable hour goals of utilized staff as well as yearly revenue goals 
  • Engages with existing and potential clients with the goal of obtaining new projects 
  • Ensures exemplary client experience and client satisfaction 
  • Maintains a network of clients, vendors, and industry partners 
  • Participates in project interviews for other project managers as appropriate 

Supervisory 

  • Conducts 555 and annual performance reviews with direct reports 
  • Oversees design team performance, gives feedback, documents issues, and leads performance discussions 
  • Directs work and mentors Technical Designer and Designers on projects while keeping team members at target utilization goals 

 

Knowledge & Skill Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution 
  • Licensed architect in the state of MN 
  • Masters degree and additional state licensures, preferred 
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience: 
  • Ground-up or remodel projects in healthcare and multi-housing experience, preferred 
  • Interior architecture experience, preferred 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products  
  • Experience with Deltek VantagePoint or similar project management software 
  • AutoCAD and Revit knowledge are a plus  
  • Demonstrates outstanding team management skills  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proven ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize effectively  
  • Flexibility, adaptability and detail-orientation are essential 


Compensation and Benefits

The starting base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $130,000, depending on experience. BDH offers a comprehensive benefit's package, including performance bonuses.
