Are you a skilled Vectorworks professional with deep experience in residential architecture who thrives supporting a design team through busy project phases? Do you bring senior-level production instincts to documentation — clean drawings, accurate redlines, and well-coordinated sets that keep moving even when workloads spike? We're looking for an experienced architect to join Common Block Studio, a New Mexico-based firm known for thoughtfully designed, small-scale spaces that prioritize quality, functionality, durable materials, sustainability, and a strong connection to the local landscape. This is a part-time, remote opportunity aligned with Mountain Time (MST). Apply now!

BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.

What you'll do

  • Support architectural production and documentation in Vectorworks across all project phases, integrating directly into Common Block Studio's team and workflow.

  • Assist with drafting, design development, permit sets, and construction documentation for residential and small-scale architecture projects.

  • Incorporate redlines, markups, and design feedback into drawing sets accurately and efficiently.

  • Prepare and update plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and project documentation as needed.

  • Support 3D modeling during Schematic Design and quick renderings during Design Development.

  • Produce DD-phase CD sets including floor plans, sections, and elevations.

  • Help maintain consistency across documentation standards and project deliverables.

  • Coordinate with the internal team to keep drawings organized, accurate, and moving forward — especially during busy project phases and tight deadlines.

  • Support the studio during software and workflow transition, providing flexible senior-level production capacity without requiring a full-time local hire.

  • Assist with project coordination tasks as needed, including consultant coordination and drawing updates.

What you must have

  • 5+ years of architecture experience with a strong residential portfolio.

  • Advanced Vectorworks proficiency — comfortable producing full documentation sets independently.

  • Experience with residential, housing, or small-scale architectural projects that prioritize quality, craft, and context.

  • Strong drafting and documentation skills: permit sets, construction documents, redlines, and production workflows.

  • Ability to join a team mid-workflow, adapt to established standards, and keep documentation moving without a long ramp-up period.

  • Interest or experience in sustainable design, efficient spaces, durable materials, and context-sensitive architecture.

  • Advanced English level, both written and spoken.

  • Reliable availability and consistent communication aligned with Mountain Time.

A great plus

  • Comfort supporting a team going through internal software or process changes — flexible, solutions-oriented, and low-friction to onboard.

  • Experience with U.S. residential permit sets and familiarity with New Mexico or Southwest regional building codes.

  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining drawing quality and meeting deadlines.

  • Background in design-forward residential studios where craft, material selection, and site response are central to the work.

We’ve got the opportunity, you’ve got the talent. We want to hear from you! Apply now.
