We’re seeking an experienced and collaborative Preconstruction Manager to join our Newport News, Virginia team. This role is responsible for managing the entire preconstruction process, serving as a trusted advisor to clients while coordinating efforts among owners, designers, consultants, trade partners, and internal project teams. The ideal candidate brings strong estimating expertise, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a strategic mindset focused on delivering value, managing risk, and positioning projects for successful execution.
As a key member of the preconstruction team, the Preconstruction Manager leads project budgeting, estimating, value management, trade partner engagement, and design-phase collaboration while ensuring a seamless transition from preconstruction to operations — The Clancy Way.
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred; Associate Degree or equivalent industry experience considered.
10+ years of progressive preconstruction, estimating, or construction management experience on large, complex projects.
Experience with commercial, multifamily, healthcare, education, and institutional projects preferred.
Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, building systems, market conditions, and trade partner relationships.
Advanced estimating and quantity takeoff skills with the ability to develop budgets across all phases of design.
Demonstrated success managing client relationships and leading collaborative project teams.
Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and construction estimating software.
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Assemble, BIM-based estimating tools, scheduling software, and construction management platforms is a plus.
High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and business acumen.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
