Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee engineering and infrastructure projects in the rail and heavy electrical sector. The role requires a strong technical background, proven leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex site operations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Site Management: Oversee day‑to‑day construction activities across substations, transmission lines, and rail electrification projects.

  • Team Coordination: Supervise labour, subcontractors, plant, and materials to ensure efficient operations.

  • Project Delivery: Monitor progress, productivity, and performance to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to specifications, drawings, and ISO/SHEQ standards.

  • Safety Oversight: Enforce compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and construction regulations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clients, engineers, and contractors to resolve technical issues and provide progress updates.

  • Reporting: Prepare and deliver regular site reports and project documentation to management.

  • Commissioning Support: Assist with testing, commissioning, and handover of completed projects.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Civil/Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • 7+ years’ experience in construction management, ideally within high‑voltage electrical infrastructure or rail electrification projects.

  • Strong knowledge of distribution & transmission substations, overhead power lines, and rail electrification systems.

  • Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and multiple teams simultaneously.

  • SHEQ and quality management experience; Eskom authorizations advantageous.

  • Training in incident investigation, HIRA, and legal liability preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Project, Candy, BuildSmart, and MS Office.

  • Excellent leadership, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
